St Sarah
St Sarah

St. Sarah was on the plains of Mamre in Hebron around 2000 B.C. when the Lord revealed to her and Abraham, our forefather, that although 90 and barren, she would become the mother of God’s chosen people. Three angels appeared to Abraham (which the Church has recognized as the three persons of the Holy Trinity). Abraham asked them to partake of his hospitality and asked Sarah to prepare the meal. And the three said to him, “I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life, and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.” Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” The Lord, knowing everything, chided Sarah for this internal laughter. The Lord then revealed to Abraham and Sarah that He was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, saying that He knew their children “shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment.” St. Sarah died when she was 135. St. Sarah is commemorated on the Sunday of the Holy Forefathers (between December 11 and 17).
